Full description

This beautiful winter decorative arch is made from hand cut glass across 4 separate firings in a specialist kiln. The polar bear family have been formed with white glass powder and pre-fired to 735 degrees Celsius to create their solid form. In a separate firing I fused a clear glass base to a Bullseye Moonlight Blue glass (10cm by 20cm) to create the base - this was taken to 800 degrees Celsius. In this firing I also fired the snow strip to soften the edges from the hand cut strip. Once cooled, I placed the snow strip, and polar bears to the solid midnight blue base. I added small pieces of white glass to create the snowfall, and then returned it into the kiln for a 12 hour fire to tac fuse the white pieces to the base. With a further 7 hours to cool, I was able to take the flat piece out and placed the piece over a ceramic bend mould. This was once more returned it to the kiln and fired to around 670 degrees Celsius to slump into the arch shape.

The final piece measures 10cm high and nearly 18cm wide. The depth of the arch is approximately 5cm.

Whilst the final piece looks black and white, when lit from behind by either natural light on your windowsill, or a candle, the translucent midnight blue reveals itself.

Postage is include within the UK.
