About Folk Spirit

Folk Spirit

Creator of primitive creatures and nifty hats

I live in the English countryside and have always been influenced and inspired by the folklore, legends, wildlife and scenery that it holds. In 2014 I wrote a novel called The Hag in the Woods, loosely inspired by the legend of Black Annis, and I see my work here with Folk Spirit to be a continuation of my fascination with folklore and the secrets that the landscape holds. I learned to make primitive dolls a few years ago and use those techniques to create animals, dolls and other creatures. My shop also contains many hats, because one of my other loves is knitting (and crocheting), and hats are so fun and satisfying to make, I couldn't resist putting those in my shop, too. My mother taught me to knit when I was 5 years old, and I taught myself to crochet in 2007.

I use a lot of recycled materials to make my primitive collectables, and make a point of never buying new fabric, instead using old things that are no longer wanted - sheets, aprons, tote bags etc. The collectables are not intended as toys and are not suitable for children, they are purely decorative.

I knit my hats with high quality acrylic/ wool blend yarn so that they are hard wearing and easy to care for, and can be washed with your normal family washing at 40 degrees. I'm all about making things easy for people!

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, or would like a custom order.
