At the moment I am not able to accept orders from Northern Ireland or to ship there. Apologies to those in that part of the UK.
The Kindred collection is a family of pieces in black stoneware clay. I like to reflect the inherent qualities of the clay itself, leaving it unglazed, and I form and decorate using the minimum of tools, so that the finished piece can reflect the material and the maker.
I use just my hands to shape each piece from a flattened sheet of clay, then apply slip (liquid clay) decorative designs with a natural sponge over torn paper stencils and resists. The motifs are influenced by textile designs and artwork from the early 20th century, while the forms have echoes of Cycladic and Minoan votive pottery.
While there are recurring shapes, motifs and colours in my work, each piece is entirely unique in its form and decoration. The work is fired to 1185 degrees Celsius in an electric kiln over a period of 12 hours. Pieces bear my maker’s mark of a swallow impressed into the base.

This piece of abstract ceramic art is handmade from black stoneware clay with a form inspired by archaeological finds from ancient sites in Greece. On the surface of the piece, I have added colour blocks, bands and stripes in intermingled shades of grey, lemon and pastel green, with a different design on each side as you can see in the images. A single grey band links these two sides, extending around the form. The colours are fired into the clay during two kiln firings and on the base is my personal ceramic mark of a swallow in flight. The piece, which I have named Jo, looks good alone or grouped with others from the Kindred family and no two pieces are alike. These pieces can form a meditative focal point for mindfulness or yoga practice. Jo is 21cms high and 7cms diameter at the widest point of the base.
