In making platters, I like to use simple shapes draped over a mould to create a soft form. Motifs are created by using coloured clay slip (liquid clay), dabbed on with a natural sponge. I’m inspired by modern abstract art and textile designs from the early 20th century. I like to use the minimum of tools – just me and the clay – because I think handmade should be just that!

Full description
A handmade ceramic art accent piece, with my original abstract motifs and matt finish. A lovely interior design addition for your home. I used a single slab of clay, shaping it with a slight upward curve on a rectangular base bearing my potters’ mark. Inspired by modern art, I’ve used coloured liquid clay slip and a single stripe of dark glaze to decorate the surface which retains the matt finish of the natural black clay. Fired twice with a final firing of 1185 degrees C. A one-off piece, which will look good in contemporary interiors. Size 13cms x 16.5 cms. This item is a decorative display piece, and is not intended for food use due to the unglazed clay finish.
