I'm on holiday from 22nd September 2024 until 3rd October 2024 and my shop will closed during that time.
Mono is a collection of simple forms decorated with white on matt black clay. I loved the challenge of limiting myself to one colour only, and echoed the simplicity with linear motifs incised into the white vertical panels and bands. Interiors are glazed with iron-rich glazes which fire to muted shades. The designs are influenced by the 1930s designs of Edinburgh Weavers, a leading modernist textile company of the time.

Full description
Small handmade ceramic vase for a pretty bud or posy to brighten your breakfast table or desk top in the office. Looks good with white flowers to continue the monochrome theme, or equally eyecatching with a posy of really bright blooms like nasturtiums. Or you can keep a few pencils in it! In black stoneware clay I made a slightly tapered shape and textured some areas of the surface with a peach stone. I created panels of white slip and incised (a technique known as sgraffito) a twining design reminiscent of vine tendrils. The interior and the textured panels are glazed in iron lustre finish with a surface gloss, while the rest of the vase is the natural finish of the black clay itself. 10.5cm high x 4 cm diameter across the base. The base has my potter’s mark of a swallow in flight impressed into the clay before firing. From my Mono Collection of individual pieces, each one different but to a black and white theme.
