Buying from me
Tilia by the Sea... jewellery and sea inspired designs made by Nicole Lind in Scotland. All sea glass is genuine and collected by me in the Kingdom of Fife and Edinburgh Area.
TiliabytheSea is a one woman venture. Every single piece is hand collected, sorted by colour and shape and then made into jewellery. Only jewellery quality sea glass, frosted to perfection, is used in my creations.
Returns Policy
You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.
Please note: Unless faulty, the following types of items are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to your specific requirements; personal items sold with a hygiene seal (cosmetics, underwear) in instances where the seal is broken.
I ship Mondays and Thursdays. All items are gift wrapped in tissue paper, organza bag, personalised envelope and send inside a bubble wrap and extra taped envelope.
Orders within the UK are send out Royal Mail Second Class.
I will mark your item as shipped on the actual posting day.
If you have received your item and are not happy for one reason or the other, please contact me. I take great pride in all my sea glass creations and hopefully you will love each and everyone of them as much as I did when designing them. Should an item not arrive after the approx postage time, please contact me - I am sure we can work something out. Be it a replacement or refund. Earrings, ear cuffs and studs are exempt from returns for hygienic reasons. Refunds for items that take longer to arrive, especially around busy periods like Christmas, can not be accepted.
Are you looking for a special piece, something custom made for you?
Please message me, if you see a design you like but would love it in a different colour and we can work towards a design that is 100% for you! Some of my designs are one off a kind pieces, some are part of a collection (Spring/Summer or Autumn/Winter). It might not be possible to recreate a sold design, but it is worth a try - so just message me! Many of my designs can be customised, ie length of chain can be shortened or made longer, sea glass colours can be changed from white to sea foam, or green etc.
Special requests
Should you have requests for bridal jewellery (all white) or for more than one piece, ie bridesmaids and bride necklaces, bracelets, earrings etc I will give a small discount that will need to be discussed prior to the order being placed. Larger orders might take between two-three weeks to complete, depending upon the quantity of items needed. In general custom requests take approx 1-2 weeks to complete. Orders will be send out Mo or Thu.
Where is my glass from and what is it like?
I only use sea glass with a 100% frosted surface. You will not find shiny areas, unless it is a very rare colour like turquoise or a large piece of blue for example, where pieces with less frosting get considered - this will be mentioned in the description. Sea glass that is very rounded and has developed a good frosting is approx 80-100 years old. Shells used are also found at the beach and are sourced when they are not alive. Most of my sea glass is collected in the Kingdom of Fife. Each piece of jewellery is made in my small studio in Cupar by myself. Within the description I note where the sea glass is from.
How do I make my sea glass more vibrant?
If you would like the sea glass colours to be a little bit more vibrant, you can rub a tiny dash of unscented oil on the surface or even just touch the sea glass. Wearing sea glass on your skin will add a more satin finish, as the oils from the skin get absorbed by the glass. The frosting is still there, and be brought back by gently washing the sea glass.
Clean and care
Most designs are silver plated, other finishes are specified in each listing.
The glue I use is a jewellery grade adhesive, slightly elastic and waterproof, but I do not recommend any items being worn in the shower or pool. To clean, please use jewellery silver cleaning cloths or warm water and soap. Gently wash the item in your hands. Do not use other cleaners, it may damage the glass and change the appearance of the piece. Always keep in mind that you now own a piece of sea glass jewellery, handle with care, it's glass after all!
Folklore
Every time a sailor drowns, a mermaid cries. Her tears get washed ashore and are called Mermaid's Tears. All sea glass is referred to as Mermaid's Tears. My signature necklace with 9 pieces of sea glass and leaf bail takes its name from this folklore.
Do you sell the settings or items to make jewellery with?
No, I sell finished pieces of jewellery only.
Will I receive the item pictured?
If there is only 1 item available - yes. If there are more than 1 pieces available you will receive an item very close to the listing picture ( ie sea glass studs). Not happy with this? Message me and I will send you a picture of the item you will receive.
Who will pack my TiliabytheSea jewellery?
TiliabytheSea is a one woman venture. I (Nicole) will personally pack each item in tissue paper, then place it in an organza bag and then in a personalised envelope with a Thank you note to you - then the envelope gets placed inside a bubble wrap envelope, with extra tape.
