Mono is a collection of simple forms decorated with white on matt black clay. I loved the challenge of limiting myself to one colour only, and echoed the simplicity with linear motifs incised into the white vertical panels and bands. Interiors are glazed with iron-rich glazes which fire to muted shades. The designs are influenced by the 1930s designs of Edinburgh Weavers, a leading modernist textile company of the time.

Full description
White panels with twining motifs, and abstract stripes decorate this lovely vase handmade from black stoneware clay. Each panel features sgraffito markings - a method of incising a design through a surface layer of colour to reveal the clay beneath. The simple black and white colour scheme is the perfect setting for an informal display of white flowers such as big daisies, overblown white roses, or small lilies. The outside of the piece is the matt finish of natural clay, while inside I glazed to give a rich shiny surface with blues and rusty brown tones. All my pieces of ceramic are different so each bears a name - this is Belle, from my Mono range, 14.5 cms tall and 7 cms diameter at the widest part of the oval base. Underneath you’ll see my signature potter’s mark of a swallow.
