Full description
This vase has an understated black finish and simple foliage decoration making it the perfect vase to display colourful flowers. I used an off-white stoneware clay to make the form, and then coated the surface with black liquid clay slip which fires to a light sheen. Before firing the vase, I used a soft point sgraffito tool to incise a free-flowing design of foliage, cutting through the black surface to expose the off-white clay beneath. Inside, the vase is glazed in a high gloss iron lustre glaze, which contrasts nicely with the exterior surface texture. 17.5 cms high and 5.5 cms at the widest part of the oval base. And finished with my potter’s mark on the base – a swallow in flight. A lovely gift to those who love flowers!
