I like to leave my handmade ceramics with an unglazed exterior which shows off the qualities of the clay itself. In this piece I have used two different clays – one black, and one off-white. The inspiration comes from traditional eastern ceramics which so often feature the natural world in their decorative design.

Full description
A handmade black and off-white stoneware bottle form in matt finish unglazed stoneware clays. I have hand formed the shape in black clay, and inlaid white clay in a curving decorative design echoing boughs and blossom in the Japanese style. Inlaying gives a slightly raised and textured effect and I have continued the design around the whole piece. The whole effect has a meditative quality, and the piece looks simple but striking as part of a modern or traditional interior. Underneath you’ll see my potter’s mark of a swallow in flight. I have called the piece Murakami after one of my favourite authors, Haruki Murakami. I've made just three pieces using the inlay technique - all available only on Folksy. Approx. 18cms high and 6cms diameter at the base.
