I am inspired particularly by textiles from the early to mid 20th century, especially the Bauhaus weavers. Art of the same period fires my creativity too, and this ceramic piece is a fusion of the two.

In textured black clay, with a unique abstract art design, I created this piece to give an individual look to your living space. It has a glazed interior so you can use it for flowers, grasses and foliage or as a sculptural art form just by itself. The outside is the natural matt finish of the unglazed black stoneware clay and features bands of pastel pink and grey, textured dimples, sgraffito circles and toning discs of colour to echo the soft oval cylindrical shape. It’s a one off design inspired by 20th century art and textiles and the motifs extend right around the form - I have shown the back of the vase in one of the images. Inside I have used an iron lustre glaze to give a glossy finish with mingled colours of brown, black and blue. The piece is handmade slowly, dried over several days, and fired twice in my electric kiln to 1185 degrees C. Height is 19.5 cms x 7.5 cms at the widest part of the oval base. One of my images shows how it looks with a dried hydrangea spray from the garden.
