Mono is a collection of simple forms decorated with white on matt black clay. I loved the challenge of limiting myself to one colour only, and echoed the simplicity with linear motifs incised into the white vertical panels and bands. Interiors are glazed with iron-rich glazes which fire to muted shades. The designs are influenced by the 1930s designs of Edinburgh Weavers, a leading modernist textile company of the time.

Free shipping for this stylish handmade vase with white sgraffito panels and stripes around the outside. Sgraffito is a method of incising a design through a surface layer of colour to reveal the clay beneath. I use black stoneware clay to make the form, and then apply white decorative designs of my own creation. When the white is dryish, I incise twining lines, wavy lines and other forms from top to bottom. The piece is fired twice, with a final firing to 1185 degrees C. This piece is from my Mono Collection and is called Olga, just over 20 cms tall and 8 cms diameter at the widest part of the oval shape. The outside of the piece is the matt finish of natural clay, while inside I glaze with iron lustre to give a rich shiny surface with blues and rust red tones. For flowers, dried or fresh, or just as a piece of abstract art in your home.
