I am currently working on a long-term project to make reduction linocuts of all of the remaining historical bottle ovens still standing in Stoke-on-Trent, the major hub of the UK pottery industry during the 19th and 20th centuries. These ovens were phased out when the Clean Air Act was brought in, and most were demolished, but over 40 still remain around the city, and I find them a fascinating subject for my work as each is a slightly different shape, in and in different states of repair and surroundings. Middleport has been restored and is still a working pottery, being home to the famous Burleigh pottery, many artisan studios and Clay College, not to mention the Great Pottery Throwdown! My originals are also for sale, but this colourway is no longer available.
