An elegant very pale blue porcelain jar with a bamboo handle and subtle colour variations reflecting the melting and flow of the glaze into the stamped markings. The glaze is transparent where thin and pale blue where it has pooled in the footprint and hand stamps. This hand-built jar with a varnished bamboo knob is perfect for jewellery, spices, condiments, herbs or your small precious items. The jar was made with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- The jar measures approximately 11cm tall and 8cm wide. The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9815.
I like making lidded jars because I am told by returning customers that they often get used regularly. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that usefully fits into their daily routine. I take care to make a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of its use. The surfaces have indentations and stamps to retain a layer of glaze and there are dashes of brush-applied green-brown iron oxide to add an abstract visual interest. This jar pays homage to my interests in the marks left on geological formations by our prehistoric ancestors and in the graceful Chinese porcelains of the Song Dynasty. It also evokes a vision of walking or swimming against the flow of a crystal-clear stream.
