The Kindred collection is a family of pieces in black stoneware clay. I like to reflect the inherent qualities of the clay itself, leaving it unglazed, and I form and decorate using the minimum of tools, so that the finished piece can reflect the material and the maker.
I use just my hands to shape each piece from a flattened sheet of clay, then apply slip (liquid clay) decorative designs with a natural sponge. The motifs are influenced by textile designs and artwork from the early 20th century, while the forms have echoes of Cycladic and Minoan votive pottery.
There are recurring shapes, motifs and colours in my work, but each piece is entirely unique in its form and decoration.

Full description
A small and totally unique piece of abstract art ceramic to add a special interior design look to your rooms and lifestyle. Called Rosa to suit her personality, the piece is handmade from black stoneware clay, and features a broad shouldered form with abstract linear decorative touches in rose pink and off white. The front and back differ in their motifs, and two bands extend from front to back linking the pink and white panels on back and front. The sculpture is fired twice, with a final firing to 1185 degrees C, which fires the decoration into the clay itself. A striking addition on its own, or when grouped with others from the Kindred Collection of similar pieces in different sizes. Kindred pieces can form a useful focus for mindfulness or yoga meditative practice. Rosa is 9.5 cms high, with my own potter’s mark on the base – a swallow in flight.
