Full description

Habitats of the Small Gorse Mining Bee is a 3D tapestry textiles which has been hand-woven on a warp of linen and wool, with a mix of natural yarns including some of my hand spun wool, various wool yarns, linen, and cotton embroidery threads. It has been stitched onto chicken wire and bent into a curved shape and finished with fabric on the back, with d rings for hanging. It measures 40cm width, 30cm length, 5cm depth.

In this tapestry I have tried to encapsulate the varied habitats of the Small Gorse Mining Bee, through the Spring and Summer seasons. There is the rough grassland with red and white clover and yellow tormentil, then the heathland with its gorse and varieties of heather and crowning it is the sea and the chalky cliffs topped with thrift and kidney vetch. I wove the edges loosely and left the fringe to emphasise the fragile nature of what can look like a robust habitat and I have used wire mesh to allow shaping to create an undulating landscape.

The piece will be well wrapped with tissue and bubble wrap and boxed for posting. It will be sent by Special Delivery with Royal Mail.
