I have seen, and indeed made, other wooden planes made into lamps, so when this lovely old piece of history came along, I built it a little different to the others.

Full description
A wooden table lamp crafted from a late 19th/early 20th century 22-inch jointer plane. It bears the name W Perkins, a proud previous owner, stamped neatly into the wood in three places around the handle. Knocks about the body and chips from the wood in places bear testament to its age.
I have taken a slice from the base and cut a channel to run the wiring through the plane before refitting the slice as a cover. There is a short length of brass tube to protect the flex where it passes through the blade aperture. I hung a brass lampholder from another short, angled length of polished brass tube. The beech wood of the plane was sanded and given several coats of French polish, which has brought out the beauty of the wood and patina. Finally the plane was mounted onto a French polished reclaimed hardwood base with the flex running out underneath.
A spiral filament G95 E27 4.5-watt LED bulb, 1.8metres/6 feet of new black braided flex with a black inline switch and black UK plug complete the lamp which would grace any room with its rustic and historic charm.
