Artisan Made Upcycled Lighting and Homeware; Innovative, Quirky and Unique

Hi, I’m Mick, Steampunk Creative Engineering is where I love to create unique, quirky and innovative repurposed lighting and homeware with a fun steampunk/industrial theme.

After over 40 years in industry, starting in a toolroom and ending as a multi-skilled maintenance engineer, in 2021 I left the shifts and the daily grind behind and embraced the artisan lifestyle. I haven’t looked back.

I am fortunate to live in open countryside in an old quarryman’s cottage just outside Rhosgadfan, a small village up in the foothills of Eryri (Snowdonia) a few miles inland from Caernarfon. Inspired by the spectacular natural landscape and views, together with the slate producing heritage of the area, I make imaginative use of the skills, tools and equipment I have amassed over the years to make unloved things into decorative and desirable decor.

The theme of my venture comes from my love of old machinery; the copper, brass and cast iron. My aim is to preserve a little of our heritage by reinventing old items to make them fun, visually appealing and practical in the modern world.

Disliking waste, I use interesting vintage or reclaimed parts wherever possible, endeavouring to maintain the character of vintage items. That said, for safety reasons, I use only new ‘live’ electrical parts that are CE, UKCA, BSI approved in my creations and individually safety test them all before offering for sale.

Naturally, sustainability and the environment are also high priority, I carry out all my operations in a responsible manner and all bulbs supplied with my creations will be low power consumption LED items; good for the planet and your pocket.
