Back in the 1980s, brutal, open class 500cc two-stroke motocross bikes ruled the roost. One of the best was the Maico 490/500. This spectacular table lamp is built around a piston from one of these powerful beasts.
I have bored out the aluminium alloy piston to conceal an E27 lampholder inside and fabricated a conrod-like support from stainless steel to hold the piston at an angle. This is secured to a salvaged wood base; old scaffold board, sanded, stained and French polished and fitted with an integral toggle switch.
Topping it off is the supplied decorative and economical 1.5-Watt LED array bulb. Power is fed through 6 feet/1.8 metres of luxury black fabric braided flex and a British 3-pin plug fitted with the correct 3-amp fuse.
