The colours shown in each picture may not be exactly as they appear in the artwork due to differences in the display modes of individual monitors and screens.

Originally, I wanted to try to do a Bob Ross-style landscape in pastel, but eventually the artwork was completed partly because it had been waiting for such a long time, but also because of the wonderful results I'd had experimenting with some new pastel pencils.

Full description

This painting is based on a photograph of the Scottish Highlands in the area of Loch Affric. It was created using soft pastels and pastel pencils on quality pastel paper and measures 38 x 28 cm, or approximately A3 size (48 x 38 cm in its pale green double mount).

The painting was completed in June 2023, having been sat on my spare easel for nearly 6 years as a layout drawing that, for numerous reasons, I never found the time to progress any further with. The incentive to finish it at long last came from buying a small set of Caran D'Ache pastel pencils, which I used here in the detail work of the trees and buildings. Pleased with the results, I bought some more. The clouds, mountains and wider landscape were completed using quality soft pastel sticks.

The artwork is dated and signed in the lower right corner.
