I have paid many visits to this relatively unknown beach in a far corner of Skye and have grown to love sitting on the smooth volcanic rocks looking out to sea with the waves crashing around me.
It has proved a wonderful place to paint on summer evenings with the light and colours changing all the time (which is also often a challenge) and the sound of the sea gurgling and slapping against the rocks. If you're lucky you can see inquisitive seals bob up for a few moments, keen to see what you are up to.
While it would be lovely to stay there all night I always end up getting cold. Hopefully the painting reaches a point of completion whereupon I insert it carefully into a cardboard box and carry it gently home.

Full description
This is an original oil painting measuring 15cm by 20cm (6in by 8in).
I painted it on location from the rocks on the black volcanic beach at Loch Pooltiel, Skye. The evening tide was coming in and the waves were swirling around me as I painted.
My family live on the Duirinish peninsula and I have spent a lot of time drawing and painting in this beautiful area of Skye.
The painting is on good quality primed canvas which I have stretched myself and stapled on the back. You can hang it as it is or you could decide to add a simple frame without glass.
