During one summer on Skye I would visit the beach in the evenings and settle down on the rocks to paint. For this picture I was sitting higher up on the beach than usual and this vantage point was interesting because I could watch the tide rushing in towards me covering more and more of the shore. Every time the sea surged it would slam into a small cave just to my left making some wonderful booming sounds.

I had to work very quickly blocking in colours and shapes in a semi-abstract way as everything changed constantly around me and finally I had to leave as the waves started lapping at my feet.

Full description

This unframed oil painting on board measures 23cm by 30cm, or 9x12 inches. It was created on location on a remote beach one evening on the Isle of Skye, at Loch Pooltiel.

The painting would suit a 'floater' frame that shows the edges of the work, without any glass.

Designed by H Colledge on the Isle of Skye
