Fused glass pansy presented ready for hanging in a black frame.
Created using coloured glass powders which are sifted through hand-cut stencils of individual petals and leaves. Several shades of powder are built up in layers to achieve a realistic colour and then kiln-fused as separate elements to bind the powders together. The resulting fragile glass 'wafers' are then layered into flower heads and fused again, and finally the picture is built onto a base panel of black glass and the third firing takes place, resulting in a delicate and realistic 3D image. I have retained the 'rolled edge' on the base glass in this instance. This is a natural feature of the production process of handmade glass, and is often discarded, however, I think it often adds to the interest of a piece.
The glass panel measures 15cm square and the frame measures 27cm. There is a hook on the back ready for hanging, or the frame will sit on a shelf or sideboard.
