I started this piece to be just another sea glass necklace, it developed it's Egyptian look as the necklace part grew, zig zags of different beads, making steps to narrow the piece more quickly so it would curve properly, gave it an Egyptian look in my mind. The piece of the ring was something that just seemed to add the final touch. It was a ring from my late mother's jewellery box, everyone wore flashy big rings in the 70s, and as she was into amatur theatrics, she had quite a collection of particularly gaudy ones.
The strands of beads are inspired by necklaces from the Tutankhamun exhibition catalogue, I was lucky enough to see it at The British Musem.

Full description
An exotic and dramatic necklace made using deep green sea glass as the focal point of the necklace, it is made with needle weaving using mat and shiny seed beads to give a contrast across the necklace, a few gold coloured beads zig zag across the surface.
The pendant, or focal point is a piece of very dark green sea glass mounted in rows of hand stitched beads to hold it securely.
the back of the pendant has fine black leather attached and a final row of beads finishes the edges. Gold beads form a delicate edge on the top of the pendant and a ring of bead weaving, which echoes the necklace, runs around the bottom edge.
The necklace is formed by beginning to weave into the final row of the mount and as it gradually narrows, there are a couple of steps which add to the egyptian look of the design.
Three strands of bugle and seed beads are fixed between the lower edge of the necklace and meet below the pendant then are connected with a piece from a gold coloured, 1970s, dress ring I took to pieces.
Some of the beads used in these strands and in the mount are vintage.
The necklace is fastened with an Aventurine nugget bead and a loop of beads.
