I love making these copper and silver pendants, they are so unpredictable, it's nice to see the result which can be a real surprise;, especially the heat painting, sometimes the colours are really intense, sometimes more subtle.

Full description

A disc of copper with spirals and loops of silver wire, of different thicknesses, fused to it's surface. The wire is fused to the copper by simply heating it with a blowtorch until it begins to melt, some sections of wire have a layer of melted silver beneath them. The ends of the wire form blobs as they melt and some of the wires have fused to each other.

A random, abstract pattern is formed as the wires melt. This technique is unpredictable and sometimes results in totally melted wire. I'm getting better at judging the point when the wire is fused enough and before it totally melts.

After cleaning, the disc is domed slightly and then polished. A final wash of heat with the blowtorch gives different colours to the copper, painting it with heat.

A copper jump ring is attached to the ring at the top of the disc it is then hung on a fine, round, red, cotton cord, the cord has two sliding knots so it can be adjusted for length. The longest is approximately 72 cm and the shortest approximately 40cm.

All of these pendants are unique, even if the wire is placed in a similar way the result is always slightly different.
