I don't remember where this huge limpet shell came from, I think somebody gave it to me, although living by the sea I may have found it at some point. I had made smaller ones before, using locket frames I had bough online, they seemed too small for this monster shell; then
I found this little tin somewhere, the fact that it had a nice positive click fastening made it ideal to become a locket frame, it also has the frame to take a picture in the lid. I cut one side away, leaving just the edge with the fastener, and fitted into the back of the limpet shell. A great treasure box that you can wear.
The beaded strand belt was something I found in either a charity shop or the local collectors market.

Full description
A really big limpet shell made into a pendant with a locket opening at the back. The pendant is mostly in shades of white and cream with a little silver and subtle rainbow colours. The shell has been polished to a pearly finish and there are faint shades of blue and pink in it.The pendant is created by stitching rows of beads around the shell to fix it to a backing fabric. A layer of thin copper is added before the fine, white leather backing, to support the locket, which is made by cutting the back off a little, heart shaped tin I found. This is stitched to the piece with fine copper wire. A layer of the white leather is glued to the lid of the tin,
Once all the layers are in place another row of beads are stitched around to conceal the raw edges. Little, white, vintage seed beads are added to create a delicate edging.
Most of the beads in this piece are vintage, the large, first row are nearly all mother of pearl beads from a deconstructed necklace, there weren't quite enough of the right size so there are 3 bone beads included to complete the row.
More of the white vintage beads create 6 loops at the top of the pendant to hang it from several strands of seed beads. I bought these strands as a belt and converted it to make the necklace for this dramatic pendant. Fastened with a loop and vintage mother of pearl button.
Pendant measure 8cm top to bottom necklace approx 51 cm long and has a long strand of the beads beyond the button.
