Upcycled/repurposed steampunk and industrial themed lighting. All with economical mains voltage LED lamps to help with your bill and save the planet!
I welcome custom orders and commissions so if you have something you would like making, repurposing or restoring, get in touch and let’s talk about what we could achieve.
These AVO Bakelite electrical test meters have such a distinctive gothic look that when I saw this one I knew it would make a stunning conversation piece lamp to gently light your room with a vintage steampunk glow.
You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.
Unless faulty, the following types of items are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to your specific requirements; items which deteriorate quickly (e.g. food), personal items sold with a hygiene seal (cosmetics, underwear) in instances where the seal is broken; digital items.
Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.
A wonderfully quirky steampunk-industrial-gothic themed decorative table lamp built into a vintage AVO electrician’s test meter. The serial number on the scale of this meter, a Model 8 mk2 Universal Avometer, indicates it was produced in October 1961. The outer parts are in great condition given its age and industrial use, with very few scratches and scuffs.
I have removed the windings, transformer and internal wiring and converted the meter into a safe and highly decorative table lamp. An ES (E27) lampholder is mounted through the base of the battery compartment so it is hidden inside the meter body with just the globe of the bulb showing. The original DC selector dial is used as a switch for the main lamp. A USB transformer, switched by the AC selector dial, powers the internal blue LED lighting (4 reclaimed fairy lights) and the meter needle which moves when on. Please note that this is not a readout of your mains voltage as it is powered by the transformer through a resistor.
