These statement stud earrings have eye catching rounds of colourful fordite which has been bezel set in sterling silver and finished off with sterling silver posts and scrolls. The fordite has broad bands of orange, green, white and black, they are not a matching pair but were cut from the same piece of rough material so make sense as a pair. They measure about 12mm diameter but are not heavy on the earlobes. Comes in a gift box.
Fordite is the name given to many layers of cured paint that builds up in old style spray booths at vehicle factories, the paint gets baked hard in between each layer leading to a durable material that can be cut to show off the many colours. This particular material was sold to me as coming from a tractor factory (possibly a Ford plant in Dearborn, USA) in the 1930's and the colours are certainly consistent with the paint charts I've found for that era. I cut this material myself from the slabettes I bought so if you want me to make you something else drop me a message. Fordite is becoming increasingly hard to source thanks to more efficient painting processes, so if you love your cars get some of the unique material whilst you can.
