These drop earrings feature fordite which has been bezel set in sterling silver then finished off with simple sterling silver hooks. The patterns on the earrings don't match but both have a colour palette featuring sparkly silver, white, red, and bright blue. The fordite measures a sizeable 45mm (from the top of the hook to the bottom of the setting) by 18mm across. Comes gift boxed.
Fordite is layers of cured paint that built up in the spray booths at car plants. The panels would rest on rails during spraying, paint would land on these and after many trips through the spray booths and curing ovens a hard build up of 'fordite' would be formed - most was removed and thrown away but some went home with the workers who realised it could be cut and polished to show the coloured layers. I cut and polish this material myself, the guy I purchased the rough from believed it to have come from the General Motor's plant at Lake Orion, the colour palette is consistent with their paint charts for the mid 2010's but I've not been able to pin down a specific year or model.
