Full description
A beautiful wooden table lamp, made from a quality antique jack plane from the late Victorian period, 1880 -90s, with the maker’s mark ‘Marshall Glasgow’ (Alex Marshall of Glasgow) and ‘Warranted’ on the toe end. It also bears the initials ‘JWB’ of a proud previous owner stamped neatly into both ends though, inevitably for a working tool, shows its age through knocks and dents about the body and a chip from the top of the handle.
I have lightly sanded the beech wood and given it a few coats of French polish, which has really added a shine and brought out the beauty of the wood and patina, mounted an Edison Screw (E27) lampholder in the toe end and made a stand which holds the plane at a jaunty angle – and keeps fingers away from the blade. The stand is made from reclaimed timber and has deliberately been left rough surfaced to give the idea of the plane working it.
A lamp which would grace any room with its period rustic charm.
