I collect these fragments of ceramic from local beaches, it seems that blue and white is the most long lasting pattern in the sea. I wanted to echo that checkered pattern in the piece so I used a pattern of openwork beading to make the necklace.

Full description

A pendant made using a piece of ceramic found on the beach. The piece has a clear pattern of squares with with white dots and lines. THe pendant has a mount made by stitching beads around it in rows, the backing it is stitched to is then covered in grey felt and a final row stitched around to cover the edge.

Most of the beads in this piece are vintage and the edge is decorated with blue and white beads with a final set of decorative triangles, the last, central one has a large vintage bead at the end.

The necklace the pendant hangs from is a spiral, basket woven chain of white, opaque, vintage beads, accented with little transparent blue ones. The pendant hangs from four loops of the white beads. The necklace is fastened with a loop of beads and a clear lampwork bead with a blue centre as a button.

The necklace is quite long, probably around 55 cms and the pendant is approximately 2"/5cm long and about 1.5"/3cm wide.

This is one of my earliest pieces in this sort of beadwork and the first woven necklace. I decided it was too time consuming although quite relaxing to do.
