Nature and the changing seasons are a thread that runs throughout all of my work, similarly when creating this latest batch of Autumnal Leaf Pendants, the clay capturing the delicate patterns of the leaves making each one unique.
The Common Lime tree grows locally here, but not native to Scotland, however, like the Oak tree has much symbolism and Folklore woven around it, can be symbolic of truth, love and much more.

These Lime Leaf pendants start life from real leaves from the Common Lime Tree which grows in the local surroundings.
The leaves are carefully rolled and pressed onto the wet surface of a terracotta clay slab, before carefully cutting around each individual leaf.
After careful drying and a first kiln firing, the now porous clay surface is layered with washes of oxides and earthenware glazes, before being placed in the kiln for a second time, giving the surface of the pendant a smooth, glossy, tactile finish on both sides.
The pendants are then completed with an addition of a hand made bead and strung with cotton cord, hand knotted with special slip knots allowing the wearer to change lengths to suit.
Coming presented in a black box made from recycled paper fibers from the Tiny Box Company, this unique piece of jewelry measures approx 7.2 cm at the longest point, 4.5 cm at it's widest point, thickness of 4/5 mm.
When worn the cord length will be approx 38 cm long, but can be adjusted.
Designed by Susan Wade - French in Falkirk, Scotland.
