I’ve had both main components for a while, awaiting inspiration, then one day it came; put them together – and I’m really pleased with the result, a retro feature floor lamp with character.

Full description
A retro feature lamp for your home, my repurposed paraffin can floor lamp is a unique marriage of a 1960s 5-gallon paraffin dispenser and a 1990s adjustable arm desk lamp. The paraffin can, labelled Esso Blue, is the sort that could be found in every UK hardware shop for dispensing paraffin into customers’ own cans. It is old, scratched but not dented and does have some rust, this has been treated and a coat of beeswax applied to stop it worsening whilst preserving the patina. I have given the brass dispensing tap a polish to add a splash of brightness.
I have mounted an adjustable arm from a 1990s desk lamp onto the can’s filler cap, the red of the arm complements the blue of the can well, rewired it with new CE flex, a new BSI plug and cleaned, inspected and tested the original switch and ceramic bulb holder. The bulb fitted is a new 4.1 watt BC LED mini globe which is supplied with the lamp.
The dimensions of the can are 11.25”/29cm diameter 20”/51cm tall and the arm sits on top of this with 360 degrees movement about its pivot in the cap and 90 degrees vertically.
