Upcycled/repurposed steampunk and industrial themed lighting. All with economical mains voltage LED lamps to help with your bill and save the planet!
I welcome custom orders and commissions so if you have something you would like making, repurposing or restoring, get in touch and let’s talk about what we could achieve.

An old wartime field telephone handset, of no use in the modern world other than curiosity value. I have made it into something useful and decorative but retained that form and interest, this could start many a conversation in your home or office!

Full description

A decorative and exclusive, one of a kind statement for your home or office, a desk lamp made from an upcycled Bakelite 1944 military field telephone handset. The handset has the date 1944 inside the microphone housing, it is typical of those found on “Type D Field Telephones” used by the British Army during and after the war.

I have removed the microphone and speaker and carefully drilled/milled out the Bakelite body of the handset to fit two new, GU5.3 fitting, 12-volt, 5-Watt LED bulbs of the type usually found in ceiling downlights. As these are LED, they do not get too hot and are very suitable for this application. The 230-volt:12-volt transformer and a panel mount toggle switch are contained in covered chambers cut into the base which is made from an offcut from a reclaimed English Oak plank. It has been sanded and French polished to give a lovely golden sheen.

The flex is new ‘antique gold’ braided with a period look, both from the plug to the base, about 2m, and from the base to the handset, about 50cm. The handset sits nicely in a minimalist wire cradle.

Features;

- 12“/31cm tall

- 10“/25cm wide

- 10“/25cm deep
