This cherry wood was responsibly sourced from the grounds maintenance team at Christchurch Park, Ipswich. The section I was given was from the trunk of the tree, so I was able to carve several pieces from it, including this spoon.
I decided to add ebonising fluid, made from white wine vinegar and wire wool, to this piece because the tannins in cherry wood react particularly well to this process and can produce attractive results. To achieve the effect on the handle I dampened the wood and dipped it in the ebonising solution. Once it was dry I gently sanded the handle to highlight the edges. I think this process has added an interesting feature to this piece.

Full description
A hand carved wooden spoon with an ebonised handle. The spoon has been carved from a piece of cherry wood responsibly sourced from Christchurch Park, Ipswich. The ebonising detail on the handle compliments the beautiful, rich colour of the cherry wood. The spoon measures approximately 25cm in length and the widest part of the bowl measures 5cm.
The piece has been treated with a coating of linseed oil to cure the wood, then it has been burnished with a smooth pebble, creating an attractive finish.
Once purchased, the item will be beautifully wrapped and sent to you in eco-friendly, plastic-free packaging, which is fully recyclable. You will also receive information about how to care for your wooden utensil.
