This recent series of wall art work, has been inspired by the repeated patterns in all aspects of nature and plants which I am able to observe throughout the year.
Colours, textures and light quality, provide endless inspiration as the seasons change and evolve.
Observing the plants, nature and animal life in my immediate enviroment, I aim to evoke with my clay work, the feeling that we are all linked.
This piece of wall art can brighten up a small space, comes ready to hang and brings a bit of nature into your home.

Full description
This miniature, leafy printed wall art, is made up of five square terracotta, hand cut tiles.
I choose a selection of plant materials, then individually roll these onto wet clay, carefully sponging coloured liquid clay over the flattened plant material, peeling off when dry, before the individual tiles receive a first kiln firing.
These individual tiles are then painted with thin coats of iron and manganese oxide stains, both of which are naturally occurng in nature to highlight the individual lines and texture unique to that plant.
These are then individually dipped in a clear glaze to recieve a second kiln firing, resulting in a smooth shiny surface, deepening the natural colours of the clay and stains.
The completed ceramic pieces are then mounted onto a painted, wooden frame, fitted with a hanging mechanism on the back.
This leafy, patterns in nature piece measures approx 30 cm by 9.5 cm and a thickness of approx 1 cm.
