I made several of these pendants after finding the technique for simulating ivory in a book about making beads. I got quite into doing it but I haven't used polymer clay for a while. The technique involves very fine layers of white and translucent clay, I tried to give them an old look, as if they might be relics from somewhere. The incised surface has brown paint in the lines to add to the aged look.

Full description

A small rectangular tablet shape made to imitate ivory or bone in polymer clay. The pendant has incised patterns across it's surface in curving lines and has a fragment of natural shell embedded at the lower edge. After firing I painted brown acrylic paint over the surface and then wiped back to leave it only in the incised lines.

Suspended from the lower edge, by loops of silver wire, are a bone bead and a mother of pearl chip bead, both of which are recycled from old jewellery.

The pendant hangs by two loops of silver wire at either side of the top edge, on a hand made silk cord. I experimented with making these cords using what is now called Kumihimo, but they are such a fiddle I gave up after a while. The fastener is a tiny silver T bar and loop.

The cord is approximately 18"/45cm.

The effect I was trying for is of something found in an archeological dig.
