I spotted a piece of jewellery that mentioned reticulation, I had meant to try this a while ago but never had the nerve so I thought, here goes nothing. I found out how it was done and set to with some squares of silver I bought years ago. It took several goes to get enough texture on the silver and at one point the silver was so soft it almost broke, so there's an interesting crack across the lower edge, it all ads to the uniqueness of this technique.
I'm looking forward to doing more of this, in fact I plan a pair of crescent moon earrings to go with this piece.

Full description
Circular silver pendant, the silver is reticulated, heated to almost melting point then plunged into cold water. This gives a random textured surface as the silver shrinks and wrinkles. I decided that it looked like a cratered moon so I cut a circle. I then drilled a hole for the jump ring.
One side of the pendant has had liver of sulphur applied to it to give an almost black surface, the high points are then repolished. Once I'd done that I realised that the black was more of a blue, I had diluted the liver of sulphur as I didn't want too dark a surface. The reverse is left as plain silver so it can be worn either way round.
It measures approximately 2.5cm across, it was cut from a 2.5cm square of silver. The chain is a sterling silver (unhallmarked) 50cm/25" belcher style.
Quite feminine but plain enough to suit men too.
