Item details

This is Sergio, a small slim black vase in stoneware ceramic, with a fresh contemporary look for your living space. I handmade the tall cylindrical shape from black stoneware clay, and decorated with bands of sponge-applied pink and grey which is fired into the clay. To finish, I added two little arched handles with the mark of a shell pressed into the clay. Inside is a gloss glaze, while the outside is the matt black of the natural clay and decoration. Pastel coloured flowers look good in this design – I have featured some viburnum blossom from my garden. Thomas looks at home in a city flat, country cottage, or modern house and each side of the design is slightly different. 15 cms high and 4 cms diameter at the base widest point.

The Lucienne Collection is named after the textile designer Lucienne Day whose work in the 1950s influenced a wide area of design. Her textile ‘Calyx’ was created for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and is still much admired today. She explored many design sources, but my Lucienne Day favourites, such as Calyx, are from the natural world. My own designs feature a nod to cow parsley, marsh grass, vine tendrils, plough furrows and field fencing.
