The glaze of this mug reminds me of those brooding heavy dramatic skies over thick healthy and full vegatation, forests and moutains in deep Summer. You can almost smell the ozone.

I wanted to design a set of contemporary mugs and bowls that would look beautiful and interesting on the table at every mealtime. One that told the origin of how and where they were made

The clay these mugs were made from was dug up from our own island. The spiral handle shows the energy of our lives and the ancient physics of the potters wheel. The glazes reflect the colours that we see in our surrounding lowland pastures and mountains as the seasons change.

You would recieve a mug very similiar to the one in the main pictures. As each mug is made and glazed completely by my hand and because of the very nature of the kiln and glazes each piece is unique but the style and colour will be very similiar.

Full description

A great mug that can be used for every meal of the day.

I threw this mug on the potters wheel using a strong stoneware clay. I then added the detail and the spiral handle. It was then fired to a bisque before being glazed in three contrasting and complimentary glazes and refired to 1220C.

The colours in this mug include on the inside a mauves and blues, the rim an olive green, and the outside mauves and browns, blues and green.

Dimensions approximately:

Height 9 cm

Width across rim 9 cm

Designed by Juliet Myers in Manchester
