I have called this a Get Well Card, to help people find it when searching.
I am not sure that is exactly what this little piece of custom art is though. It can be given as a card to someone struggling, or framed and hung on a wall.
Created from the slow process of softening, cutting and twisting leaflets from medication packaging into fine handspun paper yarn. The letters cut from the leaflet are recombined to say what you need it to say...set deep within a cut in the yarn, like a whisper. But there nonetheless.
They can be words of encouragement, catharsis, solidarity or just expressing frustration - whatever is needed.
The yarn ends in organic looking "leaves". Between the cracks and on the edges of the leaves is gold ink. The (A6) card and envelope are recycled too.
The gold reminds me of Kintsugi, the Japanese practice of mending broken pottery with gold, as it follows the cracks in the curtain of yarn.
Whether your meds help you, are unwanted, or you are struggling with coming off them, they play a role in our lives. And we have to digest and reshape this experience to build our lives.
There are postcards available in the shop if you want a more affordable option.
