Thank you for popping into my shop! I’m a retired Graphic Designer, but thankfully I haven’t retired from being creative. I still love the process of making things, experimenting with colour, pattern and texture, and giving new life to all sorts of materials.
You’ll find a colourful and eclectic mix of handmade pieces in my shop, with birds and flowers featuring strongly throughout. I particularly enjoy combining unexpected materials, patterns and colours to create unique mixed-media pieces — so there’s always something a little different to discover.
I’m also a big believer in happy postage! If you find more than one item you’d like, I ALWAYS combine postage and refund any excess. I know it can be a little alarming to see the postage total increase as you add items to your basket, but please don’t worry. I’ll package your purchases together and refund the excess postage on the same day your order is dispatched.

A little glimpse into the magic of the woodland at dusk, This tawny owl under the stars is an original mixed-media picture, created for anyone who loves nature and the quiet beauty of the countryside.
The background has been built up with layers of beautiful fabrics, including a selection of subtly patterned batiks. Pieces of decoupage paper have been added to introduce contrasting textures and to give the surface extra depth and interest.
The tawny owl has been carefully created by layering fabrics and decoupage papers, with embroidery threads and acrylic inks used to add fine details, and subtle colour variations to his plumage.
I've fussy-cut stylised bracken and coloured it with inks before embellishing it with tiny seed beads in soft peach and copper tones. The beads catch the light beautifully, adding a delicate touch of sparkle amongst the foliage.
Metallic embroidery threads add another subtle shimmer, woven through the bracken and used to stitch a scattering of tiny stars across the night sky.
There's something magical about an owl appearing beneath a starry sky, and I've tried to capture that quiet, enchanting feeling in this piece. With its layers of fabric, paper, stitch and embellishment, it's a truly original artwork with plenty of little details to discover.
And if you're buying it as a gift, I've also made a matching gift tag to accompany it.
The artwork is presented in a good quality double mount. The outer measurements are 8 x 6 inches and the inside aperture is 3.75 x 5.75 inches. It is titled and signed on reverse.
