December Birthstones - Turquoise, Zircon and Tanzanite
January Birthstone - Garnet
Ruby is the red variety of Corundum, an aluminium oxide that comes in many colours. All other colours are called Sapphire.
Ruby is the birthstone for July and Cancer, and the stone for the 40th, or Ruby, wedding anniversary.
In ancient Burma, Rubies were thought to make a warrior invincible, and soldiers had Rubies inserted into their flesh.
In India it was called the 'King of Gems' and was believed to bring prosperity and protection to the wearer.
In ancient Greece and Rome, it was believed a Ruby would darken if danger were near.
The shade of red varies depending on where it is mined, and may be a deep pink-red, a reddish-orange, red with a violet cast, or even a deep wine colour.
These are a dark raspberry pink, heat treated to enhance their colour (as are most gemstones on the market today).
Contains small parts, not suitable for children.
Ear wires are stamped '925' to denote sterling silver

Each sparkly, lightweight earring features a 5mm faceted black Onyx bead topped with four 4mm faceted Ruby rondelles, separated by 1.8mm sterling silver spacers.
The black and silver really sets off the dark raspberry pink of the Rubies.
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral Corundum, an aluminium oxide, all other colours are called Sapphire, and is next to Diamond in hardness.
It is one of the four 'precious' gemstones, along with Diamond, Sapphire and Emerald.
The beads are threaded onto sterling silver pins and hung from sterling silver ear-wires that are stamped '925'.
