February Birthstones - Amethyst and Jasper
March Birthstone - Aquamarine
The folklore and legends surrounding many gemstones fascinate me, so I am very drawn to these beautiful natural shell gemstones with their spiral pattern and string of romantic names.
Who can resist the protection of a God, or the contents of a mermaid's purse?
Contains small parts, not suitable for children

This larger size, natural shell bracelet is in neutral shades of brown, copper, and cream.
The centrepiece is a 10x8mm Shiva Eye Shell bead, highlighted with 5mm cream shell beads with flashes of Mother of Pearl, 4x3mm copper plated Hematite rondelles and 2mm pure copper spacers.
The circle is made up of rows of 4mm Brown Lip Shell heishi beads embellished with more shell, Hematite and copper beads.
Shiva Eye shell is steeped in folklore,
The shell forms a protective 'door' at the opening of the Turban Snail shell, which detaches at the end of the snails life and falls to the sea bed.
Most common in the beaches and shallow waters of Indonesia and Thailand, but found all over the world.
In Indonesia it is known as 'Shiva's Eye', a symbol of the God Shiva's third eye, and seen as a sacred object of spiritual awakening and enlightenment.
As with most 'eyes', it is believed to protect the wearer and ward off evil.
Other names for this striking piece of natural geometry are 'Pacific cat's eye', 'mermaid's money', 'the eye of Naxos' and 'tears of Lucy'.
