I've often wanted to play with colour and Ash has a particularly open grain which takes colour well and shows contrast in the grain really well.
This ash comes from a family member's home in the village of Icklingham. the tree had been blown over in a storm several years ago, sectioned and left outside in the open to season. Most of it had already gone for firewood when I rescued part of the trunk. In my first attempt at Chainsaw milling I took the slab from which this bowl has been created, Much of wood is cracked or the grain has softened to the point of being unusable but this piece produced the results you see in the pictures.

Full description
This dish at 260mm in diameter and 65mm in height has been coloured using wood dye and coloured food safe wax to create a standout piece that invites conversation or simply brings colour to room.
Made from Ash in which part of the grain had started to soften from being outside in the open this bowl is not perfectly round but has moved since being turned as, like all wood, it remains mobile when subjected to differing conditions. It has settled now and will remain stable in a home environment.
