These abstracted seed pod sculptures are inspired by the weathered pebbles, sea debris, and flotsum found on the north coast beaches near me. I love the natural shape of seed pods which provide the inspiration for the form. The rich earthy colours remain very natural, much like the tin mining landscape so prevalent in Central and North Cornwall.

Full description

A beautiful pair of hand sculpted seed pod sculptures, inspired by nature.

Each seed pod has been made by hand in my studio with local clay dug in St Agnes.

The sculptures are covered with a selection of natural oxides including iron, copper and manganese to give a rustic, natural look. A small hole is added to the base of each piece and then they are biscuit fired in an electric kiln to 900 degrees celsius

When cool, the pieces are checked, dusted and a small amount of tinted white glaze is added to the darker pod. They are then fired for a second time to approximately 1225 degrees celsius.

When cooled for a second time, the, sculptures are checked once more and two coats of clear beeswax is applied

The final pair are unique but complement each other with their individual rich earth tones.

The pieces sit well on the top of planters, half hidden by succulent plants.

They measure approximately 12.5cm long and 6cm high.
