I saw the old car horn in a sorry state in a clearance shop and immediately thought of the treble clef symbol LED bulbs I’d seen online. Add in some reclaimed wood, some brass tube from an old wall lamp, all new electrical parts and a dose of Steampunk Creative Engineering fairy dust and you have this one of a kind Steampunk feature lamp; historic and quirky!

An eye-catching musical theme steampunk table lamp built around a vintage brass car horn. I’m not sure if it’s original or a late 20th century reproduction, either way it is quite old enough to have plenty of patina and a collapsed rubber bulb when I acquired it.
I cleaned the worst of the patina off the brass and made a stand from salvaged timber (an old bookcase from a prominent Swedish maker) to hold it upright. The stand also holds a curved brass stem, itself reclaimed parts from a used wall lamp. It is fitted with a new ES (E27) brass lampholder which holds a 4-Watt LED globe bulb, its filament in the form of a treble clef symbol, in front of the mouth of the horn. The stand also holds an integrated toggle switch. I sourced and fitted a new rubber bulb to the horn, which now works and emits a loud “PARP” when squeezed. 6 feet/1.8m of luxury, black fabric braided flex with a black UK plug complete this unique lamp.
