The colours shown in each picture may not be exactly as they appear in the artwork due to differences in the display modes of individual monitors and screens.
As an exercise for my art group, I wanted to give myself a challenge and, after a rummage through some photographs, I was drawn to the detail in the rocks and cliffs and the active nature of the sea in this picture. It gave me the challenge of working out how to represent both of those in greyscale rather than using the range of colours available in the pastel that I usually use.

Full description
This is a drawing based on a photograph taken of the coastline near Lizard Point in Cornwall. As well as enjoying the more colourful art of pastels, I like to produce artwork using more traditional graphite pencil and the detail proved to be an absorbing challenge.
This drawing measures 25 x 18 cm (or 34 x 27 cm including its ivory coloured mount) and was completed as an exercise for the art group I belonged to a few years ago. The trickiest part I found was getting a good representation of such an active sea and there are a few pieces of spare paper stored away in my art room that contain the efforts lots of practice to do the sea justice before committing to doing it on this drawing.
The drawing was completed on 165 gsm drawing paper using Faber Castell 9000 graphite pencils.
