It was inspired by the woodlands around my home. I am always drawn to trees and the textures of the bark, the colours and shapes of the leaves and pattern of their roots pushing into the earth.
It was part of an exhibition with Midlands Textile Forum, who I am a member of.

Full description
Woodlands is a one of a kind, mounted tapestry weaving which has been handwoven with a mixture of silk, cotton, rayon, lurex yarns and wools, including some of my hand spun and hand-dyed wool. It is woven in various shades of brown, green, blue, grey and gold on a cotton warp in green, blue and brown. I have woven in strips which are partially joined, to create tree trunks and I have used eccentric weave and random weave techniques to create texture and pattern. I have used strips of silk in different colours, knotted onto the warp, to create foliage, and a contrasting texture to the trunks. It is stitched onto a piece of felt covered mdf which measures 28 x 37 x 2cm and hangs from d rings with twine.
It will be well wrapped in tissue, bubble wrap, boxed and posted by Special Delivery with Royal Mail. Where possible I reuse packaging to reduce cost to the customer and to the environment.
