Full description
This delightful seashore bookmark has been made from a variety of fabric pieces and haberdashery scraps, and has then been free-motion embroidered. It features a sandy beach with breaking waves, under a partly cloudy sky, and is depicted in shades of blue, white, cream, brown and olive green. The sky is made from pale blue and cream variegated print fabric. For the sea, I've used pieces of blue fabric, some fabric selvedge, white fluffy yarn and white lace. The sand is made from golden cream fabric. The sea and sand features free-motion embroidered detailing. To the sand, I've added a piece of hessian in front of some free motion embroidered olive green grass. The final touch is a piece of cream twill ribbon, on which I’ve hand-stamped the words “Beach life” in black ink (this has then been ironed to make it water-resistant). The bookmark is stiffened with an inner layer of interfacing, backed with pale blue upholstery fabric, and edged with zig-zag stitching in matching blue thread.
This delightful bookmark is a miniature piece of textile art. It would make the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys reading and loves the sea.
