About Pocketful Creations

Pocketful Creations

Handmade and unique textile accessories and homeware, individually designed and created with love.

I have an overwhelming passion for fabrics and I love the design process of combining textures and colours to create something beautiful and yet functional. Many of my designs feature fabric applique which is finished with machine embroidery using satin stitch or zig-zag stitch on a fairly basic sewing machine. The applique designs are often embellished with sequins, buttons or hand embroidery. I'm inspired by things that I have a personal fondness for and many of my applique designs feature beach huts, owls and Russian dolls, which are all big favourites of mine. I'm also inspired by nature, particularly flowers, trees and birds. I love shabby chic and rustic styles and I use a lot of pretty floral-print fabrics in my bags, pouches and bunting. I've also recently started to use hessian in my designs to give a rustic touch.

During the day I work in a laboratory, so I utilise evenings, weekends and holidays to nurture my creative streak and indulge my passion for design. My studio is my large dining table which is usually buried under mountains of fabric, haberdashery, work in progress and my much-loved sewing machine. It's a good job I have an understanding and supportive family as they only get to use the table at Christmas when I force myself to take a break and pack everything away!

My Folksy shop was started as an outlet for my completed designs. I also exhibit at craft fairs in and around the Midlands (I am based in South Derbyshire). I accept orders for commissioned pieces, as long as I feel that the request fits in with my style.

Designing and making is my passion and I hope that the items that I am inspired to create bring as much joy to others as they do to me.
